I want to marry my girlfriend but im not sue the best way to go about it. I go to Boot Camp here soon and i have enlisted for active duty. I will be shipped to virginia for my MOS and i’ve been told Intel is a long MOS. When before or after or whenever is the best time to get married? Can i switch to reserves and continue college for a while then go over to active duty? or once im reserves do i have to stay reserves till my contract is up?

First, as a Marine wife, let me tell you to only get married if you REALLY want to. This is a hard life to live. If you are serious about it, either do it right after boot camp, during boot leave, or after SOI before you go to the fleet. Once you are in, you’re in. You can not switch back and forth between active and reserves. You can go to school while you are on active duty but you do it on your free time. Most contracts are 4 years active, 4 years reserve. You do get time to go home to visit, but you have to request leave. Make sure you do your research. They won’t tell you where you are going to be stationed until after SOI or MCT. So you need to make sure your girl is willing and ready to move for you. It is a big step and a HUGE adjustment. Let me know if I can help.

I agree to the above statement. If your able to at this point, i’d go reserves, go to school if need be and allow you and your girlie to get used to the military life, get her involved as well, marine ball, auxillary functions stuff like that, than live your life around that.
