I want to join the US Marines but I get questions why not the army. Some odd reason the Marines have always caught my attention. Can someone please help?

Well… the Marine Corps is said to be much tougher than the Army (which isn’t exactly a cake-walk). I’ve talked to people who after getting out of the Marines, re-enlisted in the Army, and said that basic training was a piece-of-cake

I don’t know very much other than that, sorry I couldn’t help more.

    Be a Marine.

The Army is where the courts send criminals that get ‘alternative sentencing’. It’s either the jail or the army. Not everyone in the army gets there that way, but enough do to spoil your day from time to time.

And the Marines have better uniforms and get more babes.

first of all, you have to go with what your heart tells you or you’ll always regret it.
the marines universally will pretty much, in a conflict, you’ll be in harms way.
the army, during a conflict, you have to make a concerted effort to be in harms way, because there is a large section of jobs in the army that get no where near the action, but on the other hand there are combat oriented jobs as well, so there is more of a choice in the army in that respect.

If you can walk and chew gum at the same time, YOU qualify for the Marines!

In the Army, you have to use the gray matter between your ears!

The Marines are primarily a light infantry amphibious assault force, designed as shock troops that can be rapidly deployed anywhere in the world. They are mechanized and technologically advanced, but not to the extent of the Army, which has a large force of heavy artillery etc…. The entrance requirements are stricter, as are the requirements to get out of MCRD (boot camp). They are a much smaller force than the Army.
The Army is more of a mechanized, technology reliant force that is designed for larger campaigns with the ability to occupy the area long term.
Those are the major differences, there are many others.

    its vary simple

US Army – Do your job first then use your rifle later

USMC – Soldier first, Job when the shooting stops or when the job really needs to be done such as repairing a radio when you need more troops

plus USMC has harder training. they have the longest shooting range the military uses. and all the Marines ive known are always proud of what they did no matter what anyone elses opinion is.

U.S army…. ground fighte, scout, tanker, and most of the easily raisable ranks are from it.
than navy are more prestigious officer… a more rough training awaits them, and they are all round up officers of navigation ability’s…
since that, they are more respected than army…. and alsoless guinea pigs since they always manipulate more important tools of war..
big notoriety forthem, probably why u wher echarm by navy first

Yankee woody mentioned Waivers, Funny that the USMC has issued More waivers than the Army

in point of fact 69% of the waivers were for Drug Use by Marine Enlistees according to the Navy Times between Oct 2006 & Sep 2007

Sorry to point that out on the Marines 232nd Birthday, but he ill informed

Well an old timer once told me.

There used to be a recruiters office, when a young man walked in, to see what branch to assign him to,

They would put him in a small room with a chair and a coffee table.

On the coffee table, there was a physics book, a porno mag and a coloring book and crayons.

The ones who picked up the physics book, were sent to the Air Force.

The ones who picked up the porno mag, were sent to the Navy.

Then they evaluated those who picked up the coloring book and colored in them.

The ones who colored inside the lines, were sent to the Army.

And the one who colored outside the lines, were obviously Marines.

    .

First off, anyone who mentions how hard basic/boot is when making reference to what service to join, doesn’t have a clue.

Basic/boot is 8 to 13 weeks at the beginning of your service.

Infantry training/BCT is alot harder than anything you will ever do in basic/boot.

Your pre deployment training is again, alot harder than anything you were ever ask to do in basic/boot.

By the time you finish your first pre deployment training, what basic/boot you went to is meaningless.

The biggest difference between the Army and the Marines is:

While both are called on to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Marines still have the mission of of deploying in MEU’s around the world.

Marines are still sent to trouble spots around the world when something happens.

IE: Tital waves, major earth quakes, revolutions that endanger US citizens or embassy’s.

On Iraq, you will hear both Marines and Soldiers, trashing each other over having relieved each other in certain areas.

You have to get past the hype.

The Army and Marines have different missions.

Iraq has merged those missions together somewhat, due to the necessity of of maintaining troops levels there.

If the Army was larger, Marines would not be in Iraq.

They would have left after the initial invasion.

US marines is pretty hard if ur going to join it u better have be phisicly strong and be prepared to be shoot at since Marines are the first ppl to die in any battel. If u have a death wish then join Marines since they the die the most and have to do the dirty work while smart army guy lunch rockets from a ship and the blow the bad guys up. Ur choise..Death with as Marine or Army where u get to be the second in battel.

The difference is about 60 IQ points with the Army leading.

The Marines are our first strike heavy hitters. They let our enemy know that we are there, we are angry, and we are fighting. There is no force better suited in the Shock Force role than the USMC! High mobility, hard relentless fighting.

The Army is primarily for the extended fight. Due to larger manning, and training, the Army is better suited for this role.

The Air Force and Navy transport troops, and equipment, soften up the target, and support the Marines and Army. The Marines gain and maintain the foothold. The Army relieves the Marines, and pushes the battle forward, so the Marines can fight elsewhere or push the battle forward.

All of our military forces are interdependent. And there will always be inter-service rivalry. We need each other.

    Happy Birthday USMC!

like someone else said follow your heart…honestly anyone that you choose to be in people will be proud of you and people will talk bad about what you picked. You will be representing the US and thats all that matters. Although the Marines are known for being tougher you have to take everything into consideration. For example….if you get deployed….the Army are deployed longer…my bf’s unit (USMC) was deployed for a year in this tour where as his friend (Army) is still deployed and is doing a 15 month tour. The Army is in the heart of the war zone and so are other armed forces, but Army is the ones that are losing more of our men. Just follow your heart. You’ll make the right choice that way.
