What kind of effect does the Navy boot camp have on people?

I have heard that boot camps are meant to break you down and build you up again, and that the USMC boot camp does it to the greatest extent. So, does that mean the other boot camps don’t make you a better person, or what?

Before I joined the Navy, I visited the different military recruiting branches, to figure out which interested me more. The one Air Force recruiter told me that he was in better shape before he went to his basic training than after it was over. LOL I found that pretty funny. Seriously though, I think the difference in the intensity levels between the different military branches are because certain branches like the Army and Marines require their recruits to have a higher level of discipline. Think about it. When in the Navy or Air Force, the chances that you are going to see physical combat is pretty low. Marines and Army personel are the ones on the ground who face combat and a higher level of discipline would be more helpful to the survival of a soldier. If a soldier not in combat refuses or lacks the ability to quickly follow an order it most likely wouldn’t be as critical. If a soldier in the thick of battle refuses or disregards an order it can get them and their fellow soldiers all killed.

The Navy boot camp is trying to instill a whole new culture including language in eight short weeks. It takes some doing but by the time one graduates from boot camp they are using the head, or picking some thing up from the deck.
