What job at Marine boot camp is typically given to the smallest guy there and involves taking alot of notes?

I had a friend who went to boot camp about 20 years ago and his job involved taking alot of notes and he had said they typically give that job to one of the smaller guys there. Does anyone have an idea what they call that job?

    they call them the “scribe”.
