boot camp
Cousin asked:

My cousin recently arrived at boot camp. He didn’t get through medical because of an injury he sustained before arriving. He is very depressed because he wasn’t able to go on with his group. He would like me to send him something motivational but I’m not sure what that should be, or even what I am allowed to send. I can use any help you can provide. Thank You.

Are you Prepared for Marine Boot Camp?

my brother finished basic training last year and my best friend is in now. rule number one: do NOT send cookies or anything “cute.” Commanders love to take advantage of that. The best thing to send is a handwritten letter. Perhaps including some motivational quotes on why the military is so valuable, why there is such honor in it, etcetera. You know, anything that would scare the shit outta Jane Fonda.

U should have all the family make him a card or write him a letter, put how proud of him u all are, and make sure u all take the time to make some thing not buy it and sign at the bottom. hope this helps.

Letters, and photos (that are not inappropriate) are the ones usually sent. Depending on his Senior Drill Instructor/Company rules, magazines (no porn or gentlemen magazines) and snacks can also be sent if that is allowed in his platoon. When I was in boot camp in 3rd Phase, some of the recruits received care packages like snacks (without getting made fun of) but were only allowed to eat them during free time and share them with fellow recruits. The rest gets stored in the DI hut or thrown away. If magazines are sent, he cannot keep them. They would be stored in the DI hut until free time (usually when they hygiene) or Sundays where he can read them then.

the only thing you can send if he is in the USMC is local news papers, letters, or news magazines, nothing that does not have current affairs, there is nothing else you can do, it is time that he has to dig deep, and find out what hes made of. and accidents before hand are a problem,

My daughter twisted her ankle really bad three weeks before going, by riding her motorcycle down the dirt road, and the sugar sand, well anyway……….. she was scared that she would be in PCP but because she aced the other two parts of the IFT and missed the run time by 15 seconds they let her go on, and she had to pass it two weeks later,

SO accidents make it hard, but there is not much you can do from outside but write him every day, and encourage him, and tell him what you had for dinner, what Mary said, what Sally’s doing, everything you can think of to get his mind somewhere else, OK

    GOOD LUCK
