USMC myths? TRUTH or FALSE?Why all the hoopla and lies?

Why is it that most people continue to believe the myths about the Marine Corps? Time after time these same statements about Marines come up..and are NOT true..Will the people who have never served in the Marine Corps please refrain from answering Marine related questions. Just because you “heard” from someone or read it on Wikipedia does not mean you are any form of authority when talking about the Marine Corps..To often false information is given when speaking about the worlds finest fighting force.. Lets stick to what we know. Semper Fi
-Marines are all crazy and dumb!
-a Marine will kill you with his bare hands if he has to
-every Marine goes to Iraq and fights in combat
-Marines run 10 miles every day
-Marines exercise every day
-all Marines are rifle experts
-every Marine is a mad man waiting to kill
-Marines can not pick their jobs when enlisting
-Marine boot camp is near impossible to complete
-every Marine has Killed
-every Marine is a bad ass
-Marines receive less benefits

I would certainly hope that a Marine would kill you with his bare hands if necessary. I know I would. I would much rather kill than be killed. And while every Marine might not be an expert, he is a rifleman. They say it on the AFN commercials all the time.

Actually many Marines receive more benefits depending on the combat specialty (more money). Most Marines do exercise everyday. Not all Marines are rifle experts but they do have to have a standard to meet. Obviously not every Marine has killed. Boot camp is tough but can be passed by most young men if they so desire (no video game geeks).

I must say that I never served as a Marine, but have many family members, including my brother in law and father in law who were proud Marines. Ooh-rah!
I have never stereotyped any branch of the military in this way, but I am sure that there are some idiots out there that stereotype everyone, military included, in just the way that you have posted.
I do believe that Marines work harder to excel in physical areas than some of the other military branches, because the nature of the work that they do needs a higher level of physical fitness due to the demands that are placed upon them.
I’m sure that most Marines would like to be rifle experts (it is a great achievement), but I am equally sure that those that are not excel in other areas.
Military jobs are based upon ASVAB scores and competency, combined with training. A potential Marine recruit is urged to pursue jobs that they would be good at.
And, it is ridiculous to think that boot camp is impossible to complete, because if it were, there would be very few Marines, Capice?
The rest of them are just plain dumb.

As a Marine Corps Dad and retired Navy, I would rather have my son in the Corps than sitting in front of a computer getting fat trying to play a video game.
And yes, I can say, Semper Fi and mean it!
Honor, before all else.

You forgot the biggest of them all; the Marines are part of the Department of the Navy but are not part of the US Navy. Looking at your list spent 20 years as a Marine i will test myself:
-I might be crazy but not dumb.
-If I have to I will kill you barehanded but prefer to shoot you at range, safer and I am not dumb.
-Never been to Iraq-Vietnam yes and a couple other little things but not Iraq.
-No-way to old for that now-used to run between three and five a day though.
-Did when I was in but not really any more-too old for that.
-Not expert always like the Sharpshooter badge myself better was known to miss to keep my maltese cross and not have to buy a new badge.
-Not mad that often-works better to be thoughtful and cold about it.
-I didn’t but the option was and is there.
-Not with the right attitude.
-Not all of them that I know have-some yes and some no.
-No I am a very nice guy.
-The benefits are all the same for the services though the Air Force and Navy have better food usually and the Air Force better living conditions.

All is FALSE except there is a probability on the US Marine running 10 miles a day(Training) and
the US Marine exercising every day which is true.
The rest is used by misinformed “people.”

These are not myths. These are lies by people who have a thing against the Marine Corps. Like all myths, there is a grain of truth, a small grain, in some of your statements.
Crazy and dumb-how do some of them get through the Naval Academy, how do some get college degrees
Only a small percentage of Marines are actually involved in any combat area. Many are logistics people, clerks, instructors, etc
Run-not every day and not every Marine. Usually Grunts only
Rifle-Most Marines are usally above average in marksmanship compared to other services but most run the gamut of all abilities. he Marine Corps takes marksmanship seriously. If you do not qualify you are discharged. You however are given another chance in boot camp but you will be sent back. My son missed qualifying by five points and was sent back two weeks to another recruit company. He told me that the recruit who was headed for honor recruit missed by one and he was sent back to another company to try again. In boot camp 107 hours are devoted to marksmanship training.
Exercise-when I was in the Corps we did do exercise everyday before morning chow
Mad Man-BS
Jobs-my son was allowed to pick his job when enlisting and he got it
Boot camp-tough but more mental than physical when I was in the Corps
Killed-150,000 killers running around that have killed. Statiscally impossible.
Bad A**-We just like to think we are
Benefits-don’t know but it did pay for my college education (one of the dumb ones. I guess). The Corps does get a short shift when it comes to equipment. Army usually gets first choice. There is a legend that when the Marines landed on Guadalcanal they were armed with the Springfield .03 (a good rifle but not semi automatic). When the are Army arrived on Gualcanal they were equipped with the M1 Garand. When the Marines left the ‘Canal they all had unissued M1s, but this is just a legend.
When I hear these myths I wonder what Marine Corps I was in? Marines do have a strong Esprit.

Because some people just feel the need to speak “intelligently” on topics that they have absolutely no clue about.

You are right, none of those are true. The first one I had to re-read, but came to the conclusion that’s false also.
Served with all branches and many other countries.

they just want the marines to seem scary and they dont want you to think that they are a wimp
