The total boot camp experience, from getting the infamous haircut to graduation.

Here’s an excellent video for anyone who went through MCRD San Diego in the 1980s. A comprehensive look at training. Shot at the West Coast recruit depot, the video includes water survival training, gas chamber, qualification with M-16 rifle, drills on the grinder, obstacle course, scenes in the barracks, mess, interviews with DIs and recruits and much, much more.

All my cousins served during the 80’s and I went to their graduations, so this is a lil stroll down memory lane. Semper Fi, Marines!

they still did in the 80’s, they wore white undershirts while on mainside and they’d wear green when they hit the field. Good stuff..

300 points is a perfect score.

20 pull ups (dead hangs) NOT TIMED
80 sit ups TIMED (2 minutes)
3 mile run TIMED (18 min for a perfect score)
Do as many push ups as you can. Take that number and do 2 repititions a day. Every week add one push up until you plateau.
Do 3 repititions a day after this.
If you have not ran in a while. Start out walking a mile every day. Then jog 2 miles after a few weeks.Walk 3 miles when you get used to Jogging.Consult w/Doctor.

Hotel company Platoon 3076. Number 34. July of 1987 I graduated(You Made It 0300). Senior Drill Instructor SSgt Torres,DI Sgt Maxi, and DI Sgt Rhodes were great MARINES! Gulf War-could remember the words”Intensity! Intensity! Privates!” from DI Sgt Maxi.DI Sgt Rhodes put me on the right foot by making me forever remember that my right foot was not my left. The butt of my rifle and some shoe leather got acquainted.SDI Torres loved drill more than any Marine I ever met.

I’ll never forget a recruit getting his purple, green, spiked mohawk cut with hedge clippers from a DI on the arms of that barber chair yelling and hacking away at those spikes. The hacth slammed on me a few times. Inspections were the hardest for me. The DI’s are very intimidating. Concentrate on the questions and the proper response. The DI’s have been getting in your face and yelling at you so that you will be used to this invasion in your space and will be able to handle this presssure.3076

m-16a2 and camo pattern, not to mention old style video, says late 80’s. I went in 1983 and we still had the M-16a1.
