Marine boot camp phone calls for holidays?

This is a question for people who have been to marine bootcamp or have know someone in it. My bf is in boot camp now. I have heard that sometimes the DIs let the recruits call home on Thanksgiving and Christmas. I was wondering if that is true or not? Thanks!

Yes it is true. Whether it happens or not is a whole different story. I was in for both of those holidays. We were nowhere near phones on Thanksgiving but were able to make about a two minute call home on Christmas. By the time the call got through it was time to hang up. It is up to the Senior DI.

It is up to the DI when I was in boot from Sept 1975-Dec 1975 you do the math and figure the holidays. Never touched a phone. We was in training, now some of the other plts yea they got one. The guys just forming, or those that were ahead of us. But my plt didn’t, got some lips service as in you will get a call if you get this done in the next 1 mint and 1/2 of it is gone get back you are done. They would want you to do something that would take a good 10 just to prep for it, The games they can play at times. But hey for S&G’s(and it does not stand for smiles and grins, the last part but not the first) he just might get one. I wouldn’t give up the turkey gravy & ham biscut setting by the phone though.
