i find it funny how some people are hating on me by giving me a thumbs down. but whatever, the truth can hurt sometimes.

yes many units can jump or are jump qualified, but army airborne units such as
82nd and 173rd are the best at it. its like second nature to them.

Sorry to correct your title but there aint no Marines jumping with the 82nd in this video, the video has been around for years and they did a great job with it, but as a former Paratrooper with the 82nd I can say that the video is All Americans jumping without Marines, just look at their K-Pots, they all have camo bands on their helmets, or at least they have them when they exit, but several do blow off when they get out the door. Sorry but the Marines are not allways in all the cool videos!

to call force recon an airborne unit is an understatement. they are the usmc “s/f” unit, not just an “airborne unit”. thier insertion technique is whatever is nessesary whether it is heiborne, airborne, or waterborne.

Furthermore, Special Operations Forces, and even conventional forces often times have overlapping capabilities on purpose. Hence Seals can (and have) operated for prolonged periods of time out of the water, for example. Every military unit is tuned slightly different because if we all did exactly the same shit, we would get our assess systematically kicked.

Damn it it is not that complicated. “Airborne Unit” means exactly that: A unit capable of inserting by means of parachute (gliders are no longer used). From there every “Airborne Unit” has its on capabilities and is tailored for its own mission. Hence, Navy SEALs are technically an Airborne Unit, and yes… they are also many other things. Generically speaking “Airborne” typically refers to Army Airborne Units because they are the largest but by no means are they the only “Airborne”.

what do you need me to explain? if you want a thorough explanation, you have to do some research. if you want a layman’s term, their equivalent and most of the time do the same missions as the navy seals and army sof. the difference? they are usmc, instead of navy or army and previously wasn’t in ussocom by choice, until ordered to join in 2003.

force recon is more than an airborne unit.

force recon are the usmc “special forces”. the closes guys to them are the navy seals, the difference is that for the longest, the usmc didn’t want to join socom, until now. do some research on f/r.

force recon doesn’t do jumps like this.

No, Force Recon is still used and will continue to be. You may have heard about the reforms the military is undergoing regarding integrating Marine Corps Special Forces into SOCOM. Just look it up on Wikipedia if you’re confused; it’s surpsingly accurate.

Hey I’m planning on joining the Corps, or Navy SEALs in two years, and I’m confused because I’ve heard that the Force Recon are now not in use, or something like that. Is that true? Will they be a better fighting force a few years from now?

The day you see a C-130 Specter gunship go off in a firefight you let me know… I’m not saying they are snake eaters…. but I’ll tell you this… when your ears are blowing out of your head… you pledge to romance every every flygirl just out of gratitude… lol

This isn’t Force Recon. Force Recon is the Marine component to SOCOM (which is an Airborne unit). This however, is the 82nd Airborne Division jumping into Sicilly drop zone at Fort Bragg.

I don’t want to sound super retarded or anything, but what do these Force Recon guys do exactly? It sounds tough though.

Without a doubt that is Sicily DZ. I have seen that DZ many times when I was with Division. I was with B 1/504 from 98-02, the best years of my life looking back on it. I made friends you only find once, I miss you guys, you know who you are.
