USMC training
Johnny asked:

If it is possible, what does the progress look like (broken down real easily)? I’m askin in behalf of a friend of mine. To the best of my knowledge he is on some sort of student visa, don’t ask me what it is called.

Thanks in advance!

    Bill,

I served with 1st Marine Air Wing (1997-2001).

We had several non-US citizens in the Wing, mostly from Mexico, Philippines, Canada, and Latin America.

By serving in the US military, they can expedite becoming US citizens if they choose to do so.

yep you can join as long as you’re a legal resident..talk to a recruiter, things change often, but right now beggars cant be choosers..(I mean, we are at war and usually they are not fuzzy when someone wants to join)

A student visa won’t cut it – he’ll have to gain real legal residency first, a “green card.”

If he has a green card and is a permanent resident of the U.S. he can join the military. I read an article that stated if someone has a green card and is a permanent resident, and they join the military, the waiting period to become an official US Citizen is shortened to 3 months while they are serving in the military.

he must be a LEGAL PERMANENT RESIDENT of the US. a Student Visa is not sufficient.
