Start running. To survive bootcamp you have to be able to run
1.5 miles in 13 min 3 pull ups and 40 sit ups minimum. If you just barely make the min your going to have a hard time so aim for much better.

get rid of some weight and run run run….it really is more about stamina then anything else. the instructors will take care of the fire arms training. and remember, your success depends on your ears and eyes, not your mouth. now go get some and welcome aboard!!!

Just tell yourself…..millions of men have gone through what I’m going to go through and most of them made it. They;re no better than I am!!
Have confidence in your self. That’s 2/3 of it right there,. Believe in yourself. Guns, ? They’ll teach you all you need to know.

You will survive it’s not as hard as many people make it out top be. They might put you in PCP or make you eat lighter rations but you can/will survive if you really want to!!!

More than 99% of those that try, become marines. It isn’t that hard. It is designed to get you there, not keep you out.

Now, start running and doing pushups. If you ran into an Airborne Ranger, he’d start calling you heavy drop, and calling cadence about how you can’t run, to the sun.

I have a friend who joined the Marines and he was pretty fit to start off with and said the daily exercises blew the wind out of him. lol for excitement? There are heaps of other things to do for excitement, I think you’re probably wanting to join for all the wrong reasons, but hey don’t let my opinion sway your decision it’s your choice in the end =)

-”i can endure a lot of physical labor” Good. They’ll test that.
-”i can run a lot and do all the exercises” How much is a lot? How far can you hump? With a pack?
-”i don’t have much experience with shooting guns” They’ll teach you.

You can begin by running and doing strengthening exercises for your entire body. Memorize general knowledge such as the General Orders of the Guard, Code of Conduct, etc. Your recruiter should be able to provide you with knowledge. Also, participate in your station’s PT days, field days, and more because it’s a lot better when you’re involved with a group of people trying to reach the same goal. If your station doesn’t have organized PT (or it’s too infrequent), get some other recruits’ phone numbers and organize your own where each person takes a turn leading it (get directions of proper exercises from your recruiter). That should give you an idea…

“Push-ups, pull-ups, 3-mile run; these are the things that we do for fun.” – excerpt from a running cadence

    Good luck, recruit.

For below: “Right now, their hurting for guys so badly, they’ll pass you no matter what”
I highly, highly disagree. I know plenty of people that have been turned away for a variety of reasons and some people that weren’t too bad off physically who just couldn’t hack it.

If you can get in, pass the requirement test to get to training, you’ll more than likely pass. You have to be real bad shape to fail based on physical training.

As for not much experience with guns, don’t worry, they have lots and teach you.

You’d be fine if you just get into the DEP….the recruiters can help you loose a bunch of weight and get very prepared for boot camp….you dont need any weapons experience they’ll teach you everything you need to know
