My husband does Aviation with the Marine Corps and His squadron deploys on the Boat for 7 months every other year. They rotate years with another squadron.
So it would just depend really.

Pretty good, as we are Amphibious. The majority of us do deploy on Ships during our Career…

The corrects answer is 356 days a year..
It really doesn’t matter what you want..Some units deploy on ships while others never will..Many infantry Marines will never set foot on a ship while others will deploy more then once onto a ship for periods of 6-7 months at a time.
Other Marines go on ships for shorter amount of times just to train. Like I said, It will depend on what unit you get sent with. Certain units have a responsibility and for some the responsibility is that particular part of the world.
For example. The unit I was in was home based in Hawaii..Our area was the Pacific. We never ventured into the Atlantic because that was the east coast Marines area…So we spent time on various ships.

I guess if you had some special job where you were fixing things on a ship. Mainly people join the Marines because they are willing to go to war, which Marines are the first ones in. But, every time my husband was deployed, he had to be on a ship for MONTHS. I’m not sure why they didn’t just fly them to Iraq? So, maybe you’ll get your chance. From what he told me, being on a ship is horrible. Chances are, if you ask the Marines for something, they will do the complete opposite

There are always Marines on ships when deployed either as squadron members or as ship security force. If you want to deploy join the aviation branch and you will almost be guaranteed some sea time.

It depends on if you are in a squadron or you are on ships company. Squadrons are on for the duration of a cruise and ships company is assigned to the ship and are part of the ships perminent crew. Most ships have a contingence of Marines.
