How come women are allowed to join the Marines?
December 8th, 2008 | by MakingMarines |bowlingcap asked:
I can understand why women are allowed to have combat support jobs, but the Marines are supposed to be infantry first, MOS second. That’s what “every Marine a rifleman” means, right? But the Army blocks women from serving in the infantry. If the Marines are supposed to be infantry, how can women serve this role?

Because not every MOS has to do with infantry, let alone weapons.

Well, I would never join any branch of the military cuz I’m just a poor little girl w/no muscles, but I guess in American you gotta grant equal opportunity for both. The Marines are prestigious, you know.

Every Marine is a rifleman is a motto but not actually practiced. Just like the other service branches there are more than just infantry positions in the marines. You got medics, intelligence, computer operations, MP’s, Legal, engineering, and so on.

Women never make it to the foxhole at the front. They do other important jobs and are a credit to the Marines.

the army has the same motto. women are not allowed to hold infantry jobs in the marines either. but some of the jobs that women are allowed to have can put them in harms way. which is why everyone is taught simple infantry tactics. i serve in the army and although i cannot have an infantry job the job i do have puts me in combat situations. so i must be trained to fight and survive just like a male the only difference is my job doesnt require me to go look for danger like the infantry does.

I think i am missing something here with this question and answers. I just got back from Iraq after 2 tours and there are woman fighting along side of me with weapons also. Maybe i should of told them to go back to the kitchen, when your fighting u don’t care if it’s a guy or a woman as long as you protect each other ass from getting killed. Wake up people Woman and Men are dieing there.

Some women are very good in combat and keep a clear head. Women can be just as bloodthirsty as men.

they r aloud to because ever since the civil rights movement women r aloud to do most of the same jobs that men are aloud to do. I personally wouldnt join but some women want to fight for there country

They are allowed because women went to court and it was a case of dicrimination against their sex, so they were mandated by Law to allow them to join.

You are not Infantry in the Marines unless you are in the MOS 0300. Everyone else is just trained to fight if they have to, just like the Army.
