I have one question how does a Marine become a Platoon guidon? Does the DI ramdomly pick a Marine or is this Marine have experience in drilling before the other Marine in his/her plaoon?

Well, the guidon itself is the staff with the flag, whereas the Marine is called the guide. He is basically the recruit leader of the platoon. It isn't necessarily a random nomination from a drill instructor, the said recruit has to show leadership and responsibility capabilities to be able to carry out such a billet.

Just got off the Depot today after a long, challenging three months, this was by far my favorite part of the ceremony, after marching behind the guidon for so long and seeing it as a symbol of our platoon (2052, G Company, 2D RTBN)It was hard to see it go.

depends...like a friend of mine is graduating next week with Hotel Company, and he says his platoon guide was chosen just because he could drill from ROTC but was basically not a good leader.
