The Crucible still exists. All the knowledge and training you gained throughout boot camp is put to work during the 54 hour Crucible. It was worth the experience. Working together was the best part about. I loved every minute of it. Receiving the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor from my drill instructor was one of my favorite memories.

Yes, the Crucible is still the climactic event for USMC Boot Camp, both at MCRD Parris Island and MCRD San Diego. There is one major difference between the two, though. In PI, the Crucible is the final event, and once it’s completed the recruits get their EGA and are called “Marine” for the first time.
In San Diego, the Crucible occurs in week 9 of boot camp (including receiving week… so 8th training week… last week of Phase II… at Camp Pendleton). Recruits then have the four final weeks, Phase III, of Boot to complete before the get their EGA and can enjoy family day and graduate day as Marines.
