Hey, that’s interesting. I remember those geckos when I was at Shwab in 79. I miss Okinawa. To me that was the best place to be a Marine. I was always in open squadbay my whole 8 yrs in the Corps. I got out in 86.

In Kaneohe Bay the last open squad bays I remember were B 1/3 weapons Plt in 1988 to 1989. Receiving was an open squad bay in 1993 when I left the island. I liked the open squad bays in Okinawa at Camp Hansen. Woke up one night in “88″ with a big mama gecko staring at me from the ceiling beam. We were a tighter unit in the open squad bays. It reminded me of boot camp. We lost the Plt home and gained the unit hotel.Qauntsin huts are still in Camp Wilson, CA and PTA on the BIG Island of HI.

Yup I’m familiar with the Mama san “sew sew lady” as we had them up at Camp Schwab. I also had a buddy in the engineers at Hansen and am familiar with your squadbays. That was when i was there in 79′.

as of 1989 there were open squad bays on camp hansen (i was in one for a year on the back side of hansen in the engineer barracks) with mama san (did our laundry/ironing to those that didnt drink so much) & the whole 9 yards. also beer machines was in the barracks $1.00 then.

Simply excellent vid from your platoon back in 67. My older bro went in 1966 and was already in Nam when you were at PI. I joined in 78 and was a DI at PI in 84. Hey redo the vid with”Buffalo Springfield’s song “For what its worth” which I believe came out that year.

I hope all my Marine brothers shown in this vid came home from Vietnam. God Bless you all

Semper Fi Mac! I hear the smoking lamp no longer exist in the Corps. There aren’t any open squadbays in the FMF either from what i’ve been told. The grunts live in hotels now on base. No more starched covers or spit-shines.
