12 days left to prepare for boot camp, tips?

prepare for boot camp
paradigmentropy asked:

Short version: What can I do to decrease my 2 mile time as much as possible in the next week and a half?

Details: I’ve been preparing myself physically for the last 2 weeks or so working out 3ish days/week, but with 12 days left before I find myself in the stress haven that is boot camp I feel I should push myself a lot harder for the next 10 days as I don’t feel up to par. The minimum requirements to graduate boot camp are 45 push ups in 2 minutes, 50 sit ups in 2 minutes, 1.5 mi in less than 12 minutes, and 2 miles in less than 17 minutes. Currently I can run about 1 mile in 8 minutes, and 1.5 miles in 14 minutes, running seems to be my weakest point for the time being. I’ve worked myself up from about 29 push ups to 37 (34 is recommended before you get to basic, and I think I can hit 40 before I leave) and I can do 70 sit ups in 2 mins. I’m not worried as much about the push ups and sit ups, but I would like advice on what I can do to decrease my 2 mile run time as much as possible. The longest distance I’ve run in the last few weeks is 2.5 miles but I’m confident I could go farther. When I run I try to push myself as close to the vomit threshold as possible, and sometimes even crossing it.

Run 2-3 miles a day 6 days a week as hard as you can. Do 3 sets max push up and sit ups 2X a week. Take a couple of days off from everything a before boot camp. Good Luck and thanks for doing your part to protect your country.
